Arizona Captive Quarterly

News
President's Message

Well, we are in the "dog days" of summer. Notwithstanding, interest in Arizona as a captive jurisdiction continues to grow.

Latest News from the Arizona Department of Insurance

If not by the time of publication, certainly within a very short time thereafter we will have licensed our 70th captive since inception of the program. We finished last quarter with 66 and, as of this writing, we have 69 with an active application for a Physicians Group RRG. Without considering the RRG at this point, we have, therefore, licensed 15 new programs during 2006.
Although it is difficult to predict where we will finish the year, I think it is fairly safe to believe that we will have at least a half dozen more new entities before the end of the year.

AzCIA External Affairs Committee Report

AzCIA Continues Work on 2007 Arizona Captive Legislation. The AzCIA External Affairs Committee is completing its work on 2007 legislation to further modernize and improve Arizona's captive insurance law. The AzCIA Board is expected to approve proposed legislation at its meeting on September 13, 2006. The External Affairs Committee will then begin discussions with the Arizona Department of Insurance, legislators and other interested parties to maximize consensus prior to introduction of a bill in the 2007 legislative session. A summary of the proposed legislation will appear in these pages after the Board's approval.

AzCIA Conference Committee Report

The 2007 Arizona Captive Insurance Association Annual Conference will once again be held at the prestigious Arizona Biltmore Resort and Spa.  As you know, our last conference was held there and we received rave reviews. Be sure to mark your 2007 calendars and hold the dates of May 15th through the 17th for the conference. We have planned some unique educational sessions, coupled with interaction between captive vendors and captive owners. We will be holding a 'Captive Owner' round table luncheon to allow the captive owners to meet each other and interact together. We have made arrangements to secure a larger block of rooms at the Biltmore hotel; however, they fill up quickly that time of year.  So we encourage you to commit to attend at an early date and make your hotel reservations as soon as you receive our brochure.

It should once again prove to be a conference that no one who is active in the captive insurance industry will want to miss.

AzCIA Membership Committee Report

The AzCIA Membership Committee and Board of Directors welcome FIVE new member companies who joined the association since June 2006.  They are:
